learning, memory, plasticity and related disorders - from molecules to behavior
Learning, memory and plasticity are crucial mechanisms for the adaptation of an organism to a new environment. Neuroscientific groups in the greater Hamburg area have an internationally renowned standing in this field, both in the cellular-molecular as well as in the cognitive domain. To further improve our understanding of the mechanisms underlying learning, memory and related disorders, data from the smallest to the largest observable scales have to be integrated. We will use the current initiative to implement integrated and interdisciplinary projects as well as new groups and an integrated graduate school, in order to further strengthen the link between cellular-molecular and human cognitive neuroscience. In the long term this will lead to therapeutic consequences for patients suffering from learning deficits or neurological disease.
